Re: Let's write in English!
Hello! What an interesting topic! Darsy wants the same but in German and I'd like one in Italian or Spanish. What do you think?

Re: Let's write in English!
Ich will Deutsch. Bitte, bitte.
Hi everyone. Darsy, I join you if the "german topic" is opened. I wish I improve my german language since I'm living in Germany and my kids are going to Kindergarten here. Thanks to them I must speak with the Kindergarten teachers and other parents in the local language. At work I can use English, so that it's more simple there. It's really interesting to observe how one my boys speaks Romanian with a strong german accent even if he is only 3 years old. I'm very curious to see how he will develop in this sense.

Re: Let's write in English!
Hi everyone. I'm living in Germany too ( for the moment) but I have no intention to learn the language:). When I really need german( just to answer at my customers emails) I use google translate.
Trandafiras, your boy will be just great! My son speak German like the other germans, no difference at all.

I'm sure of that. Actually I am wondering if he can comunicate easily in romanian when he grows up. I am sure that both children will know better the local language because they go to kindergarten and in the future will attend the school here. Their grandparents (all four) are living in Romania, so that I wish they speak romanian fluently too. But it is really too soon to conclude something. Does your son speak romanian too? How old is he?

Re: Let's write in English!
You need to speak Romanian with them. My husband is american, I am romanian, we lived in Italy for 16 years. In our house we speak:
-me with my son: Romanian
- my husband with my son: English
-all together: Italian or English
He grew up like this, and is able to speak 3 languages without any foreign accent. He's 21 now:)

Re: Let's write in English!
Indeed. We speak only in romanian with them. I strongly hope that they will be able to use romanian further. I have friends who told me that in time, the children will prefer to comunicate in the local language even home where another language is in use. At the moment, they are too small to predict something. My husband thinks that this is only my worry with no reason. We'll see. But I feel more optimistic since you shared your positive experience. Thanks.

Re: Let's write in English!
If you speak to them only in Romanian, they'll certainly speak it fluently and won't forget it. It's up to you what language you use at home, but without speaking Romanian they can't learn it like a native. And for children it's even easier to learn more languages at the same time. Don't forget to correct them and when they learn an object in German try to teach them in Romanian, too. Good luck!

You're welcome! They are so lucky to have such great parents who can teach them so many languages at once!

Re: Let's write in English!
Luckily, my husband and I have the same belief: we can try either english or german, but we have the romanian accent and make mistakes ... while we have romanian in blood. The latter comes naturally, with no effort and hence, we can teach others correctly. On the other hand, I grew up closed to both my parents and grandparents, respectively, so that I would be so happy to see a great connection between my children and their grandparents. Therefore, the first condition is to have the same language. Then, it is up to each of them how closed they become.
I'm sorry for this no-end topic. I'll finish it now ))).

Re: Let's write in English!
My son doesn't speak Romanian too much. Actually, he started to learn more now. We agreed to speak in romanian. I spoke with him in English because I needed to learn, and my children were the best for me in that moment but later I got lost myself in languages and I talked to him only in English or him in English and I in Romanian. Personally I pass from a language to the other very hard and I speak a lot of Romano-English or Anglo-Romanian And between some swahili enough to make a good salad.
But, I don't worry so much! He can catch Romanian very well if he stays few months in Romania.
With my daughter is different. She speaks both languages English and Romanian very well.
About accent....what is wrong with that??? I have russian accent, my husband Romanian, my daughter african and my son american. Everybody is surprised in the good way about us.

Re: Let's write in English!
Danniela, I think you've done what you taught it was best for you at that moment. And you're right with the fact that your son can get enough romanian for daily speach if he stays in Romania for a couple of months. In my case, I would like my children to communicate in romanian since I have a closed relationship with my parents and they don't know german. Concerning the accent, I believe it would be easier for my kids to speak like the children from here, than in the other case. It doesn't matter for me, but for children for sure.

Re: Let's write in English!
I don't see the use of this topic if we are not correcting somebody when is writing wrong. If the purpose is to learn, then let's do it properly. When I had an english citizen as boss few years ago, we made an arrangement: he would correct me whenever I say something wrong and I'd correct him when he's wrong. I just wanted to speak better english language, he tried to learn romanian. Mission accomplished for both of us
Re: Let's write in English!
Hiii,girls
Andata, you're absolutely right....we should help eachother here,but....how can I correct anyone when I am not convinced that I use english language correct? I am not an english speaker,I don't use english almost...never,haha,but I noticed there are here few girls who have many opportunities to speak and write. So we,the others, will be very gratefull to learn from you :D

Re: Let's write in English!
Andata, I agree with your suggestion and I would be so happy to have some corrections when I'm wrong. But I'm not quite sure that everyone feels good in the same situation.
Day, I dare to correct you in the last answer: ... there arehere a few ...

Re: Let's write in English!
Hey, long time no see!
I found an interesting site with pronunciation exercises: HERE
Although I live in an English speaking country, my English is the same as before because I don't speak it much. But I get along just fine.
Day, I'm gonna give you some advices. Try not to translate from Romanian word for word (mot-a-mot). Instead you can use phrases that mean the same thing. It helped me allot to watch movies without subtitles and to read English sites.
So we,the others, will be very gratefull to learn from you.
The rest of us will be very grateful to learn from you.

... when I'm not sure that I use English language correctly?
"I don't use english almost...never"
I use English very rarely or I almost never use English
